SMART LIGHTING – EXPLAINED
Smart lighting is a lighting technology designed for energy efficiency.
Smart lighting is a lighting system that you can control from an app or GUI based interface. The app enables you to change the brightness of the lights, set up schedules to switch on and off at specific times, or activate these lights when you’re away on holiday to make it look like someone’s home, deterring burglars.
Most smart lighting systems will operate by connecting to the Wi-Fi network and allows you to control your lights through your smartphone. Some smart systems use an industry-standard wireless protocol to communicate with each other.
Most popular protocols are:
Smart Lighting enables households and users to remotely control cooling, heating, lighting, and appliances, minimizing unnecessary light and energy use. This ability saves energy and provides a level of comfort and convenience. The concept of smart lighting also involves utilizing natural light from the sun to reduce the use of man-made lighting and the simple concept of people turning off lighting when they leave a room. Various sensors can be used to optimize electricity usage.
Let us understand how Smart Lighting network works with an example of Smart Street Lighting which alone can contribute to almost 50-60% energy saving Smart Controllers are used with each Street light along with suitable sensors and communication modules. These Smart Controllers communicate health data of street light street lights to Smart Gateway, which in-turn consolidates this data and communicate through the cloud to Smart Light Manager, with which you can monitor/control entire street light network and fetch various reports.
